Track of the Day-Eminem freestyles

I haven't done a Track of the Day in a while, so here's my newest one. Two of Eminem's freestyles, which of course are dope, we should come to expect nothing less form him. Of course he says his usual crazy shit like his very first line "Met a retarded kid named Greg with a wooden leg, snatched it off and beat him over the head with the peg." Or something like, "I'm doing drive-by's in tinted Corvette's on Vietnam War vets." So please listen to this, you already know you want to.

Gang Starr/Guru Tribute. RIP Keith Elam aka Guru (1966-2010)

The group was founded by graffiti artists Horne and Elbo in Boston, MA in 1985 (then known as Keithy E. The Guru) and DJ 1,2 B-Down (also known as Mike Dee) with various producers, such as Donald D, J.V. Johnson or DJ Mark the 45 King helping out. In 1987 and 1988, Gang Starr released three 12" vinyl singles on the Wild Pitch label. In 1989, the group split and the only member willing to continue under the name Gang Starr was Guru. He soon got in touch with DJ Premier (then known as Waxmaster C who sent him a beat tape which Guru liked. He invited DJ Premier to join Gang Starr and in that same year they released their first single "Words I Manifest" along with the album No More Mr. Nice Guy (1989). During their career Gang Starr helped pioneer the New York hip hop sound, and in fact, many an artist who achieved greater notoriety owes much of their sound, lyrical style, and even content to Gang Starr. The entirety of Gang Starr's catalog, especially Step in the Arena (1990), Daily Operation (1992), Hard to Earn (1994) and Moment of Truth (1998) are well-respected among critics. Their track "Jazz Thing", featured on the soundtrack to Spike Lee's film Mo' Better Blues, helped establish the sound of jazz rap.

Guru founded Gang Starr in 1987, and built a sizable following in the early 1990s, releasing classic albums such as Step in the Arena (1991) and Daily Operation (1992). In 1993, he released his first solo album, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1. The album featured collaborations with Donald Byrd, N'Dea Davenport and Roy Ayers, while his second LP, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, featured Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis and Jamiroquai. His "first proper solo album", in his own words, was Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures (2005), released with the help of producer and new backup MC Solar (who is not to be confused with MC Solaar from France). The album reached #1 on the college hip-hop charts, but was a failure with both fans and critics. It still managed to sell relatively well for an independent release. Guru's last projects were the fourth installment in the Jazzmatazz series, entirely produced by Solar, released in early June 2007, and Guru 8.0: Lost And Found, released May 19, 2008 (also in collaboration with Solar). Although there were hopes for a Gang Starr reunion, Guru stated he would not work with DJ Premier again. On February 28, 2010, Guru went into cardiac arrest and, following surgery, fell into a coma. He woke from the coma but died on April 19, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.

Middleton helps Texas A&M snag fifth straight opening round win

Texas A&M F David Loubeau hits the mid-range jumper for two of his 14.

When Texas A&M guard Derrick Roland broke his leg in December it forced some drastic lineup changes for the Aggies, including freshman Khris Middleton being moved into the starting lineup. He played OK, then averaged a solid 15 points in three Big 12 tournament games. But Middleton erupted for a career-high 19 points as fifth-seeded Texas A&M crushed 12th seed Utah State 69-53 on Friday in the first round of the NCAA tournament's South Regional.

Youngstown Heist featuring Trife da God, Sheek Louch, and Bully

Overall grade:

I can't give it the "A' or "A+" because of how short it is. At the same time, it's a VERY good album. The Wu-Tang trio brought it back to the old school with those original beats and Stat Island underground flow. They didn't feature many other artists, which to me is good so that listeners can focus on the comeback of these three, rather than other artists. This is a definite must have for any real hip-hop lover, go cop it!
